Community Connector

The Community Connector will create and/or connect community-based events and resources with youth/families. They will work with Job Coaches, Worksite Supervisors and the Community Coordinator to determine the skills that youth participants currently lack in order to cater community events to their needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; 2 year’s related experience and/or training preferred.

  • Eager to learn about cultural and generational differences and plan events that bridge those gaps.

  • Enjoys driving and meeting new people.

  • Able to remember how people matter to one another.

  • Can intuitively understand what will help a community come together and is able to work with other people to coordinate efforts that matter to the whole community, and intentionally focus on parts of the community to bring them into the whole.

  • Must be an excellent listener who can accurately repeat what other people have said.

  • Must use knowledge to bring people together and maintain confidentiality.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to read a limited number of two and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.

  • This position requires the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Job Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Use youth voice (STEADY Work youth) to create/coordinate work readiness events/resources. 

  • Work with youth, points-of-contact, and job coaches to connect youth to specific community resources they may need. 

  • Connect with the School Liaison for any school-related resources. 

  • Maintain a good relationship with the managers of your community’s resources. 

  • Connect with Community Coordinators, Job Coaches, Mentors, Points-of-Contact, and Worksite Supervisors to coordinate youth transportation needs. 

  • Creating ideas for community events that will help youth and/or families gain skills or perspective. 

  • Support the Community Coordinator to find job sites.

  • Reach out to the community to get feedback using surveys or gathering participants for focus groups.

  • Marketing/Coordinating with community/school marketing team to promote community events. 

  • Coordinating transportation needs to help youth attend community events and obtain community resources. 

  • Staying aware of county-wide events and resources to connect youth as needed. 

  • Coordinating with School Liaison to bridge school-based and community-based resources and events. 

  • Coordinating with Community Coordinators and/or Worksite Supervisors to ensure Out-of-School youth can access resources/events.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places and outdoor weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold (non-weather); extreme heat (non-weather) and risk of electrical shock. 

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 

Physical Demands:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 35 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. 

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. 

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 

  • The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. 

  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; talk or hear and taste or smell.
